Baseball Bat Attack: Suspect Nabbed After Incident Near Westchester Intersection

A 28-year-old has been charged in connection to an assault with a baseball bat near an intersection in Westchester that sent two victims to the hospital.

It happened around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, May 12, in New Rochelle at Washington Avenue and Fourth Street.

The incident involved two victims, a 36-year-old man and his 66-year-old uncle, New Rochelle Police said.

Both men suffered severe head injuries, with the older man being unresponsive but still breathing. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the 66-year-old had to undergo surgery. 

New Rochelle PD detectives received leads that led to the arrest of a suspect in connection to the incident: Jose Ochoa, age 28, of New Rochelle.

Ochoa was charged with:

  • First- and second-degree assault, both felonies
  • Two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony
  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
